Episode 42: Charlotte Perriand

Charlotte Perriand was born in Paris, France on October 24, 1903. After attending the Ecole de L’Union des Arts Decoratifs, Charlotte went to work for Le Corbusier. Charlotte, Le Corbusier, and Pierre Jeanneret would collaborate on many iconic modern pieces. Towards the end of World War II, Charlotte was asked to come to Japan. There, she would move away from the tubular chrome design into a more naturalistic and rustic design focusing on natural materials. Later in her career, Charlotte would work on the interiors for several large projects. Charlotte passed away a few days after her 96th birthday on October 27, 1999. Her daughter Pernette, worked alongside her on projects in the second half of her career and continues her legacy today.
